SUMMARY:GGOS Topical Meeting on the Atmosphere
DESCRIPTION:Topics Meeting Logistics Dates Registration Abstract Submission Travel Award \nGGOS serves as an integrating framework for all components of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG)\, providing a clearinghouse for geodetic expertise and fostering interdisciplinary research. A current challenging topic is the modelling of spatio-temporal variations of the atmosphere (troposphere\, stratosphere\, mesosphere\, thermosphere\, ionosphere/plasmasphere) and the magnetosphere using geodetic and geophysical observations. Several colleagues are making great progress in this field\, and therefore\, GGOS is convening this meeting to bring together all these colleagues to share common research points and to identify new topics for study. The scope of the meeting also includes the participation of colleagues from the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA)\, with the main objective of establishing a multidisciplinary network of scientists to integrate geodetic and geophysical technologies for comprehensive monitoring of the atmosphere and categorise existing and potential new related applications that contribute to the dissemination and societal use of research results in this important field. Please click on the following link for more details about the meeting: \n\nProgramme – Agenda [PDF]\nAbstract Booklet [PDF]\nDetailed Meeting Description [PDF]\nMeeting Report [PDF]\nList of Participants [PDF]\nPresentation Slides & Posters [Zenodo]\nPhotos: Topical Meeting and Guided Tour at GFZ\n\nGroup photo of the GGOS Topical meeting participants (October 7\, 2024) \n\nMeeting Logistics\nThe meeting was held over three days (October 7-9)\, please see the agenda. SUMMARY:Africa Rising: Shaping Our Common Future Through Geodesy
DESCRIPTION:We invite you (in-person or online) to join us for an amazing meeting on Geodesy in Africa at the Science Summit for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. \nIn addressing global challenges like climate change\, urbanization\, and sustainable resource management\, accurate geodetic data is crucial. We aim to elevate the global geodesy supply chain\, align geodetic science with policymaking\, and advance research through multidisciplinary cooperation. \nCentral to our agenda is integrating the African perspective to address unique challenges and contributions. This meeting focuses on advancing UN Resolution 69/22\, “A Global Geodetic Reference Frame (#GGRF) for Sustainable Development\,” fostering discussions among Member States\, international organizations\, and geospatial experts. One of the key topics to be discussed the 1st Joint Development Plan for Global Geodesy\, aiming to accelerate progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. \nFind more at https://sciencesummitunga.com/science-summit-unga79/

SUMMARY:AGU Fall Meeting 2023 - GGOS Session
DESCRIPTION:The AGU Fall Meeting 2023 will be held in San Francisco\, USA\, from December 11-15. This year GGOS has following combined session with IGS: \nServing Global Geodesy: Innovations Enabled by the IGS and IAG-GGOS (G41C & G44A)\nSession description: “The International GNSS Service (IGS) provides a broad range of high-precision openly available products supporting a diverse array of GNSS-based scientific applications. Currently the legacy product chains include three out of the four meanwhile fully deployed global constellations\, namely GPS\, GLONASS\, and Galileo. Developments to including additional global and regional systems (BeiDou\, QZSS\, NavIC\, etc.) are ongoing within the IGS. Advances in IGS product development may stimulate new multi-GNSS based scientific applications in a wide range of potential applications from geodetic\, geodynamic towards glaciology\, global environmental change\, disaster and tsunami early warning\, up to space weather and atmospheric science. At the same time\, the continuous improvement of GNSS-based products is a scientific challenge regarding constantly evolving satellites\, systems\, signals\, related models\, and data analysis methodology. This session solicits presentations on scientific applications enabled by IGS products as well as new strategies to improve the quality and breadth of GNSS products.” \nG41C Poster session – Thursday\, 14 December 2023: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm23/meetingapp.cgi/Session/208765 \nG44A Oral session – Friday\, 15 December 2023: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm23/meetingapp.cgi/Session/211275

SUMMARY:AGU Fall Meeting 2022 - GGOS Session
DESCRIPTION:AGU Fall Meeting 2022 will be held in Chicago and online everywhere 12 – 16 December 2022. More than 25\,000 attendees from more than 100 countries will convene to explore how Science Leads the Future. \n \nGeodesy for Sustainable Earth Observation\nGGOS has its own session “Geodesy for Sustainable Earth Observation”\, please participate: \nThe Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) provides measurements of the gravity\, rotation\, and shape of the Earth using space and terrestrial geodetic techniques. These measurements must be accurate to better than a part per billion in order to advance our understanding of the underlying processes responsible for temporal changes in the Earth’s rotation\, gravity\, and shape. Demanding applications of geodesy include mass transport in the global water cycle\, sea level and climate change\, and crustal deformation associated with geohazards. All these measurements require a common reference with the same precision\, like the terrestrial reference frame and the unified height system. GGOS is designed to unite the individual observations and model into one consistent frame with the highest precision available. This session welcomes contributions on topics relevant to GGOS\, particularly those related to its scientific and social aspects\, geodetic infrastructure\, observations/products\, and activities of services. \nFor more information and the program of all geodesy sessions\, please visit https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm22/meetingapp.cgi/Program/3397 \n
