SUMMARY:AGU Fall Meeting 2023 - GGOS Session
DESCRIPTION:The AGU Fall Meeting 2023 will be held in San Francisco\, USA\, from December 11-15. This year GGOS has following combined session with IGS: \nServing Global Geodesy: Innovations Enabled by the IGS and IAG-GGOS (G41C & G44A)\nSession description: “The International GNSS Service (IGS) provides a broad range of high-precision openly available products supporting a diverse array of GNSS-based scientific applications. Currently the legacy product chains include three out of the four meanwhile fully deployed global constellations\, namely GPS\, GLONASS\, and Galileo. Developments to including additional global and regional systems (BeiDou\, QZSS\, NavIC\, etc.) are ongoing within the IGS. Advances in IGS product development may stimulate new multi-GNSS based scientific applications in a wide range of potential applications from geodetic\, geodynamic towards glaciology\, global environmental change\, disaster and tsunami early warning\, up to space weather and atmospheric science. At the same time\, the continuous improvement of GNSS-based products is a scientific challenge regarding constantly evolving satellites\, systems\, signals\, related models\, and data analysis methodology. This session solicits presentations on scientific applications enabled by IGS products as well as new strategies to improve the quality and breadth of GNSS products.” \nG41C Poster session – Thursday\, 14 December 2023: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm23/meetingapp.cgi/Session/208765 \nG44A Oral session – Friday\, 15 December 2023: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm23/meetingapp.cgi/Session/211275

SUMMARY:AGU Fall Meeting 2022 - GGOS Session
DESCRIPTION:AGU Fall Meeting 2022 will be held in Chicago and online everywhere 12 – 16 December 2022. More than 25\,000 attendees from more than 100 countries will convene to explore how Science Leads the Future. \n \nGeodesy for Sustainable Earth Observation\nGGOS has its own session “Geodesy for Sustainable Earth Observation”\, please participate: \nThe Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) provides measurements of the gravity\, rotation\, and shape of the Earth using space and terrestrial geodetic techniques. These measurements must be accurate to better than a part per billion in order to advance our understanding of the underlying processes responsible for temporal changes in the Earth’s rotation\, gravity\, and shape. Demanding applications of geodesy include mass transport in the global water cycle\, sea level and climate change\, and crustal deformation associated with geohazards. All these measurements require a common reference with the same precision\, like the terrestrial reference frame and the unified height system. GGOS is designed to unite the individual observations and model into one consistent frame with the highest precision available. This session welcomes contributions on topics relevant to GGOS\, particularly those related to its scientific and social aspects\, geodetic infrastructure\, observations/products\, and activities of services. \nFor more information and the program of all geodesy sessions\, please visit https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm22/meetingapp.cgi/Program/3397 \n

Furthermore\, geodesy enables accurate collection\, management and alignment of nationally integrated geospatial information – a key requirement for societal\, environmental and economic activities. \nAn amazing panel of speakers will present the benefits of geodesy to society in a virtual open forum on Earth Day\, the 22 April 2021\, starting at 10.30 am (UTC). \nThe Global Geodesy Forum “Power of where: The value of Geodesy to Society” is organized by the UN-GGIM Subcommittee on Geodesy and will focus on the significance of geodesy for the wellbeing and betterment of society\, environment and economy. \n\nGlobal Geodesy Ambassador\nThe United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean\, the Honorable Ambassador Peter Thomson\, who is also the Global Geodesy Ambassador\, will provide the opening address. Ambassador Peter Thomson from Fiji introduced the resolution ‘A Global Geodetic Reference Frame for Sustainable Development’ (A/RES/69/266) to the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. \nCrucial role of geodesy\nThe forum will also highlight the benefits enabled by an accurate and reliable Global Geodetic Reference Frame (GGRF)\, and the crucial role of geodesy in providing safer and more resilient communities. Target groups are policy- and decision makers\, chief executives\, director-generals and senior executives from Member States and relevant stakeholders in the global geospatial community. If decision makers and donors do not understand the value of an investment in the GGRF\, they are unlikely to prioritize GGRF investments above other initiatives \nYou can find more information and connection details: https://ggim.un.org/meetings/2021/Global_Geodesy_Forum/ \n  \n[copyright by UN-GGIM & Anne Jørgensen\, IAG Newsletter – March 2021]

SUMMARY:AGU Fall Meeting 2020 - GGOS Session
DESCRIPTION:In 2020 the AGU Fall Meeting was held as an virtual conference due to travel restrictions by Coronavirus. AGU2020 wasscheduled from 1-17 December to accommodate over a thousand hours of virtual content to minimize conflicts while maximizing global engagement. Scientific program content was available on-demand\, with pre-recorded oral presentations and virtual posters available for attendees to view and peruse outside of the scheduled live Q&A sessions during the meeting. You can find more info here … \nGGOS Session:\nG022 – The Global Geodetic Observing System: Resilient Infrastructure for Sustainable Scientific Activities I\nThe Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) provides measurements of the time varying gravity\, rotation\, and shape of the Earth using geodetic and gravimetric instruments located on the ground and in space. These measurements need to be accurate to better than a part per billion in order to advance our understanding of the underlying processes that are causing the Earth’s rotation\, gravity\, and shape to change. Mass transport in the global water cycle\, sea level and climate change\, and crustal deformation associated with geohazards are examples of particularly demanding applications of geodetic and gravimetric measurements. All these measurements require a common reference with the same precision\, like the Terrestrial Reference Frame and the Unified Height System. This session provides a platform for discussing diverse scientific targets of GGOS with large dynamic ranges in space and time and geodetic infrastructure to enable stable production of accurate data. \nThis year the GGOS Session was held online. All contributions (pre-recorded oral presentations and posters) were available for registered AGU participants over the whole time from 1-17 December. GGOS Session Infos & Schedule \nLive Session (overview & Q&A)\nDuring a live overview and Q&A sessions (by Zoom)\, presenting authors will give a brief introduction and overview of their pre-recorded presentation. (Session Date and Time: Wednesday\, 16 December 2020; 05:30 – 06:30 PST). More than 27 people attended this live session. \n \nView Pre-Recorded Presentations about GGOS CO & DOI Working Group\n \n  \n
