SUMMARY:15th International School on “The Determination and Use of the Geoid”
DESCRIPTION:Dear Colleagues\, \nWe are glad to inform you that the International Service for the Geoid (ISG) has organized a new edition of the traditional International School on “The Determination and Use of the Geoid”. It has been planned in cooperation with the Institute of Ionosphere (Almaty\, Kazakhstan)\, which fostered this initiative. \nPlease share this announcement with potentially interested students\, because the registration is still open. A maximum number of 40 attendees can be accepted. \n15th International School on “The Determination and Use of the Geoid” \nApril 7-11\, 2025 \nFrom April 7th to 11th\, 2025\, the 15th International School on “The Determination and Use of the Geoid” will be held at the Institute of Ionosphere in Almaty\, Kazakhstan. This event will be conducted in person\, and all classes will be delivered in English. \nThe intensive week-long Geoid School is aimed at training students\, early-career scientists\, and professionals from national agencies\, universities\, and research institutes by providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary for computing and applying gravimetric geoids in various scientific and technical geodetic applications. Participants will gain valuable insights into the latest advancements in geoid determination and have the opportunity to establish international collaboration and interaction with experts in gravity field modeling. \nMoreover\, the School emphasizes the importance of interaction between the scientific community and cartographic agencies responsible for the development and modernization of national geodetic infrastructure. This collaboration ensures the effective translation of scientific research into practical applications for the improvement of regional and local geodetic networks. \nThe Geoid School is organized in partnership between the Institute of Ionosphere (Almaty\, Kazakhstan) and the International Service for the Geoid under the International Association of Geodesy. \nFor more information\, please see the following website: https://geoid-school.ionos.kz/ \n  \nKind regards\, Daniela Carrion\, Mirko Reguzzoni\, Daniya Shoganbekova and Asset Urazaliyev

SUMMARY:AGU24 Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The next annual meeting of the American Geoscience Union – AGU24 – will be held this year in Washington\, D.C. on 9-13 December 2024. More info: agu.org/annual-meeting \nGGOS Session\n\nWe would like to draw your attention to our GGOS session G007: \nGeodetic Standards for Improved Accurate and Consistent Earth Observation Products from the Global Geodetic Observing System Techniques \nGGOS Session Description: \nEnsuring up-to-date geodetic standards is essential for analyzing observational data and delivering accurate and consistent products interoperable in both geodetic and other earth sciences. Several organizations are interested and cooperate on achieving new and improved standards: so\, GGOS is developing the upcoming international height reference framework\, IAU/IUGG/IAG have resolutions recent and underway\, and IERS is updating its 2010 Conventions. \nWe invite discussions of revisions to standards like status of the update of fundamental constants and models for tides\, geopotential and Earth rotation\, and topics including but not limited to main geodetic techniques such as VLBI\, GNSS\, SLR\, LLR\, DORIS\, altimetry\, and gravimetry\, as well as their co-location in ground and space\, infrastructure improvement\, or RFI protection. The session also welcomes discussions on geodetic data bases and products\, their better exploitation\, or meeting societal needs through timely applications to\, e.g.\, geohazards monitoring\, geodetic space weather research or artificial intelligence for geodesy.

SUMMARY:GGOS Topical Meeting on the Atmosphere
DESCRIPTION:Topics Meeting Logistics Dates Registration Abstract Submission Travel Award \nGGOS serves as an integrating framework for all components of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG)\, providing a clearinghouse for geodetic expertise and fostering interdisciplinary research. A current challenging topic is the modelling of spatio-temporal variations of the atmosphere (troposphere\, stratosphere\, mesosphere\, thermosphere\, ionosphere/plasmasphere) and the magnetosphere using geodetic and geophysical observations. Several colleagues are making great progress in this field\, and therefore\, GGOS is convening this meeting to bring together all these colleagues to share common research points and to identify new topics for study. The scope of the meeting also includes the participation of colleagues from the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA)\, with the main objective of establishing a multidisciplinary network of scientists to integrate geodetic and geophysical technologies for comprehensive monitoring of the atmosphere and categorise existing and potential new related applications that contribute to the dissemination and societal use of research results in this important field. SUMMARY:Africa Rising: Shaping Our Common Future Through Geodesy
DESCRIPTION:We invite you (in-person or online) to join us for an amazing meeting on Geodesy in Africa at the Science Summit for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. \nIn addressing global challenges like climate change\, urbanization\, and sustainable resource management\, accurate geodetic data is crucial. We aim to elevate the global geodesy supply chain\, align geodetic science with policymaking\, and advance research through multidisciplinary cooperation. \nCentral to our agenda is integrating the African perspective to address unique challenges and contributions. This meeting focuses on advancing UN Resolution 69/22\, “A Global Geodetic Reference Frame (#GGRF) for Sustainable Development\,” fostering discussions among Member States\, international organizations\, and geospatial experts. One of the key topics to be discussed the 1st Joint Development Plan for Global Geodesy\, aiming to accelerate progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. \nFind more at https://sciencesummitunga.com/science-summit-unga79/
