SUMMARY:IAU Symposium 2027
DESCRIPTION:January 18th – January 22nd\, 2027 in Windhoek\, Namibia \nRelativistic jets from active galactic nuclei are among the Universe’s most extreme particle accelerators. Blazars\, with jets pointed toward Earth\, show dramatic multiwavelength variability and gamma-ray flares\, offering unique insights into particle acceleration\, jet dynamics\, and magnetic field structure. Yet key processes\, such as jet formation\, the location of high-energy emission\, and the mechanisms driving flares\, remain poorly understood. This symposium brings together theorists\, observers\, and instrument scientists to address these challenges\, focusing on universal jet physics across systems\, including jet launching and collimation\, particle acceleration\, magnetic-field evolution\, multi-band flaring and polarisation signatures\, and multimessenger links involving neutrinos. Comparative insights from other jetted sources\, such as GRBs\, TDEs\, and Galactic accreting systems\, will broaden the scientific perspective. Building on the progress surrounding the African Millimetre Telescope in Namibia and the continued success of H.E.S.S.\, MAGIC\, VERITAS\, MeerKAT\, EHT\, SALT\, and Fermi\, and the upcoming SKA\, Vera C. Rubin Observatory\, CTAO\, and ASTRI Mini-Array\, this meeting will advance multimessenger studies\, foster international collaboration\, and engage early-career researchers and the growing African astronomy community. \nThe IAUS 413 will focus on recent studies in these fields and potential future prospects and synergies among them. During this meeting\, the topics we will discuss include: \n\nUniversal dynamics & modelling: Identify fundamental processes of jet formation\, composition\, and acceleration across AGN\, GRBs\, and XRBs by employing advanced RMHD and PIC simulations to unify observed universal jet behaviours.\nEmission & localisation: Characterise high-energy emission zones within relativistic outflows by analysing jet structure and magnetic-field evolution across diverse accretion and power regimes\, from Galactic sources to the most distant quasars.\nMultimessenger synergy: Evaluate the physical connections between flaring activity\, neutrino production\, and candidate multimessenger sources to build integrated theoretical frameworks for jet phenomena across all mass scales.\nPolarimetry & variability: Utilise multi-band flares\, multiwavelength variability\, and polarisation signatures as high-fidelity probes to decode internal jet physics and particle acceleration mechanisms in X-ray Binaries and AGN.\nComparative astrophysics & scaling laws: Conduct cross-system studies (TDEs\, AGN\, and Galactic XRBs) to determine if particle acceleration and energy dissipation mechanisms are truly scale-invariant or fundamentally altered by the local environment.\n\nDetails\nThe 2027 IAUS413 will be held between January 18th – 22nd\, 2027\, in Windhoek\, Namibia\, making it the 5th African country ever to host such an event. The abstract submission/travel grant application deadline is July 15th and the registration deadline August 15th 2026. SUMMARY:Asia-Pacific Gravity and Geoid Workshop 2027
DESCRIPTION:This meeting aims to promote regional collaboration in gravity\, geoid modeling\, vertical reference systems\, and time-varying gravity applications. In addition to traditional static gravity topics such as geoid determination and vertical datum modernization\, the meeting will emphasize emerging applications of terrestrial time-varying gravity in groundwater studies\, managed aquifer recharge\, and land-subsidence monitoring. \nThe meeting will provide a platform for researchers\, national mapping agencies\, geodetic institutions\, and young scientists in the Asia-Pacific region to exchange methods\, data\, and experiences. We especially welcome participation from countries interested in strengthening their gravity\, geoid\, and vertical reference activities\, as well as those exploring terrestrial gravimetry for hydrological and environmental applications.

SUMMARY:Talks on GIA Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Alexandre Couhert and Maxime Rousselet\, both at Centre national d’études spatiales (CNES)\, Toulouse\, France \nwill present \nPart I (Alexandre):\nSatellite altimetry sea level rise estimates and ocean mass trends derived from satellite gravimetry both rely on solid Earth/pole tides and GIA models\, to remove these signals from GRACE/-FO and altimeter based sea surface height observations\, and access to the secular variations in these global-scale mass transfers. In 2015\, a concern was raised concerning the consistency of the recommended modeling approach in the International Earth Rotation Service (IERS) Conventions and updates were proposed since then to accommodate this issue. Nowadays\, with hindsight\, additional inconsistencies may arise when combining these different geophysical models. \nPart II (Maxime):\nSolid Earth models are crucial for interpreting space-geodetic observations\, yet mantle rheology remains inconsistently treated across time-scales. A self-consistent framework must capture elastic\, transient\, and viscous deformation. In particular\, the transient rheology below the asthenosphere\, acting in the interannual to centennial band\, remains poorly constrained. Previous studies estimated tidal-band attenuation from a-posteriori gravity fields\, losing the covariance information contained in the observations. Incorporating rheology directly into orbit determination overcomes this limitation. What is the amplitude of the mantle’s transient response below the asthenosphere?\nWe address this by combining consistent orbit and rheology modeling with independent geophysical constraints. Analytical orbital perturbation theories describe satellite responses to anelastic pole tide and long-period zonal solid Earth tides\, showing why these signals should be analyzed jointly. We use this framework to estimate Extended Burgers parameters\, supported by a comprehensive error budget covering constellation design\, formal uncertainties\, other rheological parameters\, and residual gravity-field errors.\nWe further assess implications for climate-related quantities derived from space geodesy. For GRACE/-FO estimates of barystatic sea-level change\, rheological treatment can introduce a systematic trend bias exceeding 10%. This highlights the importance of transient mantle deformation for interpreting long-term satellite records and motivates a consistent solid Earth framework across time-scales for both mantle characterization and climate monitoring.
