SUMMARY:14th International School on “The Determination and Use of the Geoid"
DESCRIPTION:From November 13 to 17\, 2023 will be held the 14th International School on “The Determination and Use of the Geoid”. The School will take place at the Instituto Geográfico Nacional\, in Buenos Aires\, Argentina. The School will be held in person and classes will be taught only in English. \nThe general purpose of the full-week intensive Geoid School is to prepare new graduate students\, young scientists\, and employees of national agencies to compute and use gravimetric geoids for scientific and technical applications in Geodesy. In addition\, the School provides an excellent opportunity to familiarize with the latest geoid determination development and improve international contacts and collaborations among scientists dealing with gravity field modeling. \nIn addition\, the scientific community must be linked to the Cartographic Agencies responsible for implementing the GGRF in the country so that the research carried out in the scientific framework can be applied to develop regional and local regional geodesy. \nThe geoid school will be organized in cooperation with the International Service for the Geoid of the International Association of Geodesy \nFor better use of the knowledge that will be taught at the School\, attendees must have a basic understanding of the following topics: \n\nConcepts about gravimetric measurements and calculations\nConcepts about altimetric measurements and calculations\nConcepts on calculation and use of Digital Elevation Models\nConcepts about Geopotential Models\n\nMore information can be found at: https://sirgas.ipgh.org/escuela-geoide/en/home-2/ \nPre-registration will be open from March 20 to July 20 at the following link: \nhttps://forms.gle/HYsAdAuJ4PuzvNXH9

SUMMARY:GRACE Hackweek 3
DESCRIPTION:We are organizing “GRACE Hackweek 3”\, an online school on time-variable gravity field from GRACE/GRACE-FO satellite missions to be held from October 2-6\, 2023. This is the third edition of the online school. \nIt is our aim in this online school to give an idea of the time variable gravity field recovery process from satellite gravimetry missions\, and also to help non-geodesists to get to grips with handling\ntime-variable gravity data from GRACE/GRACE-FO. The online school will be open to everyone who is interested in using time-variable gravity for their research. A copy of the flyer with the program schedule can be downloaded at the following link http://tinyurl.com/4acyp5vw and registration for the school can be done at the following link https://forms.office.com/r/HsJgytvaVa\nThe last date for registration is September 24\, 2023 (UTC). \nWe look forward to your participation and a successful online school. \nBalaji\, Nico and Matthias

SUMMARY:AGU Fall Meeting 2022 - GGOS Session
DESCRIPTION:AGU Fall Meeting 2022 will be held in Chicago and online everywhere 12 – 16 December 2022. More than 25\,000 attendees from more than 100 countries will convene to explore how Science Leads the Future. \n \nGeodesy for Sustainable Earth Observation\nGGOS has its own session “Geodesy for Sustainable Earth Observation”\, please participate: \nThe Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) provides measurements of the gravity\, rotation\, and shape of the Earth using space and terrestrial geodetic techniques. These measurements must be accurate to better than a part per billion in order to advance our understanding of the underlying processes responsible for temporal changes in the Earth’s rotation\, gravity\, and shape. Demanding applications of geodesy include mass transport in the global water cycle\, sea level and climate change\, and crustal deformation associated with geohazards. All these measurements require a common reference with the same precision\, like the terrestrial reference frame and the unified height system. GGOS is designed to unite the individual observations and model into one consistent frame with the highest precision available. This session welcomes contributions on topics relevant to GGOS\, particularly those related to its scientific and social aspects\, geodetic infrastructure\, observations/products\, and activities of services. \nFor more information and the program of all geodesy sessions\, please visit https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm22/meetingapp.cgi/Program/3397 \n

SUMMARY:22nd International Workshop on Laser Ranging
DESCRIPTION:Yebes Observatory\, the National Geographic Institute of Spain (IGN)\, with the support of National Centre for Geographic Information (CNIG)\, and in collaboration with the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS)\, will host the 22nd International Workshop on Laser Ranging in Guadalajara\, Spain\, on November 7-11\, 2022. \nThe city of Guadalajara\, in Castilla-La Mancha\, the region roamed by Cervantes’ immortal character Don Quixote\, is conveniently located some 60 km eastwards of Madrid\, easily reachable by public transport. It is the largest population centre near the Yebes Observatory\, the most significant Spanish facility in the fields of radio astronomy and geodesy. The conference venue\, where the main program and meetings of the various ILRS Standing Committees will be held\, is located near the city centre\, with accommodation and services at walking distance. \nAfter the hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic\, the 22nd IWLR\, organized as a hybrid in-person/online event\, will be an excellent opportunity to show and discuss advances in the scientific and technological fields of Satellite Laser Ranging\, Lunar Laser Ranging\, and other related techniques.

SUMMARY:2nd International Symposium of Commission 4: Positioning and Applications
DESCRIPTION:The 2nd International Symposium of Commission 4: Positioning and Applications will take place from 5 to 8 September 2022 at the GFZ Potsdam. \nThe 2nd Commission 4 Symposium brings together scientists\, researchers\, and professionals dealing with the broad area of positioning and applications. For this purpose\, it will facilitate the discussion of research that leverages current and emerging positioning techniques and technologies aiming at delivering both practical and theoretical solutions for engineering and mapping applications\, GNSS-based technologies\, sensor fusion\, and atmospheric remote sensing\, modelling\, and applications\, based on geodetic techniques. Recognizing the central role of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) in providing high-accuracy positioning information today and in the future\, the 2nd IAG Commission 4 Symposium will focus on ongoing research for improving models and methods that enhance and ensure the performance of GNSS-based positioning solutions for a wide range of geodetic applications. The 2nd IAG Commission 4 Symposium will be devoted to the discussion of theory\, strategies\, and tools for modelling and/or mitigating the effects of interference\, signal loss\, and atmospheric effects as they apply to precise GNSS and other space geodetic techniques. They will address the technical and institutional issues necessary for developing backups for GNSS\, integrated positioning solutions\, automated processing capabilities\, and quality control measures. Besides positioning\, another focus of the 2nd IAG Commission 4 Symposium will be on remote sensing and modelling of the lower and upper atmosphere. \nThis symposium will be carried out in close cooperation with the International GNSS Service (IGS)\, the IAG Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) Focus Area “Geodetic Space Weather Research”\, as well as via linkages with relevant entities within scientific and professional sister organizations. The Symposium will be co-sponsored by the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy’s (IAGA)\, Division II “Aeronomic Phenomena” Working Group IIC “Meteorological Effects on the Ionosphere”. Further partners are the Institute of Navigation (ION)\, the SGI Workshop Organizers of Technische Universität Berlin\, and the GFZ Potsdam. \nPlease visit the event website to see more information: https://www.iag-commission4-symposium2022.net/ \n
