ITGRF Workshop 2026

14 September | 12:00 - 16 September | 13:00 UTC

The 2026 ITGRF workshop will provide an excellent opportunity to advance the International Terrestrial Gravity Reference Frame and to discuss current activities within the IAG Joint Working Group 2.1.1. The workshop will focus on ensuring the compatibility of absolute gravity observations, establishing and maintaining gravity reference stations, and developing a modern, user-oriented infrastructure for end-users. It will bring together experts in absolute gravimetry, gravity monitoring, and reference frame realization to exchange knowledge and coordinate future work.

The International Terrestrial Gravity Reference Frame (ITGRF) is developed by the International Association of Geodesy and is based on accurate observations from absolute gravimeters and continuous gravity monitoring at reference stations. Its primary objective is to replace the obsolete International Gravity Reference Standardization Network (IGSN71) defined in the early 1970s with a modern, consistent global gravity reference.

The workshop will be hosted in 2026 by the British Geological Survey’s Space Geodesy Facility at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, a site with a strong scientific heritage as the former home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory.
