The Canadian Geophysical Union (CGU) 2028 annual meeting will be held in conjunction with the 38th International Geological Congress (IGC) in Calgary, Canada, from August 12–20, 2028. Under the overarching theme “Geosciences for Humanity,” this joint event serves as a premier global forum for advancing Earth science research and its societal applications.
The CGU program specifically anchors the Geomatics and Geodesy theme (Category V, Group AJ), focusing on the critical role of geodetic infrastructure in monitoring a changing planet.
Key Scientific Focus Areas:
- Reference Frames & Gravity: Modernizing global and regional spatial frameworks.
- Geodynamics: Solid Earth processes, active tectonics, and natural hazard assessment.
- Climate & Cryosphere: Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA) and sea-level change.
- Space Geodesy: Advanced GNSS applications, reflectometry, and Earth observation.
- Environmental Monitoring: Hydrology and anthropogenic impact tracking.
Submission Deadline: Session proposals must be submitted via the Scientific Program Portal by March 2027.
