Geomatics Engineer (f/m/x) – Regional gravity field recovery
What to expect
The “Satellite Geodesy and Geodetic Modelling” department develops application scenarios for gravity field determination and inertial navigation using quantum sensor technology. The portfolio ranges from the determination of mass transport on Earth as a result of climate change and geophysical processes to the gravity field determination on planets and moons in the solar system. The position is established to improve the determination of the Earth’s gravitational field using satellite gravimetry data of the satellite mission GRACE-Follow On. This is applied and experimental research.
Your tasks
- You will research the determination of the Earth’s gravitational field in regional areas.
- You will develop evaluation software for gravity field recovery using MASCONS.
- You will plan and coordinate tasks and projects in the field of satellite gravimetry.
- You will apply the latest machine learning methods for optimisation.
- You will model regional gravity fields and validate them with ground-based measurements.
- You will publish scientific papers and present your results at national and international conferences.
Your profile
- a university degree (Master’s degree / university diploma) in engineering (e.g. in the fields of geodesy and geoinformatics) or natural sciences (e.g. specialising in physics) or other relevant degree programmes.
- Expertise in the gravity field recovery using satellite observations
- Programming skills (e.g. Julia, Matlab, Python, C/C++, Fortran…)
- Knowledge in the use of software engineering tools
- Knowledge of machine learning methods
- Experience in the independent planning and realisation of project work
- Very good written and spoken English skills
