Spotlight on Young Researchers – ECSNet Video Series

As part of its activities, the IUGG Early Career Scientist Network (ECSNet) is producing a series of short videos that highlight Early Career Scientists (ECSs) across all IUGG Associations. Several of these videos will feature ECSs who are active within the IAG and contribute to geodesy in different ways. All IUGG ECSNet videos are available at the IUGG YouTube Channel. In addition all IAG related will be published at IAG-GGOS YouTube Channel.

In a blog series at IAG website, we will regularly showcase selected ECSNet videos that introduce IAG Early Career Scientists, together with a short written profile of each person. Over the course of 2026, new videos and stories will be added, offering insights into their research topics, motivations, and career paths. Stay tuned to meet the next generation of geodesists contributing to the IAG and the broader IUGG community.

What is the IUGG ECSNet and how is the IAG involved?

The project “ECSNet: the IUGG Early-Career Scientists Network,” established by IUGG in 2024, aims to build a dynamic, inclusive community of Early Career Scientists (ECS) across all eight IUGG Associations. ECSNet serves as a central hub where ECSs from different disciplines can come together. Katia J. Pinheiro leads the development of the ECSNet website, blog, and video content, making the network and its activities visible and accessible.

For the IAG, Julia Azumi Koch serves as the ECS representative within the IUGG ECSNet. She conveys the ideas, needs, and priorities of the IAG ECS community to the wider IUGG network, ensuring that geodesy is well represented in this interdisciplinary environment. Within the IAG, an ECS is defined as anyone who obtained a BSc, MSc, or PhD degree within the last ten years.
