Satellite Laser Ranging – How SLR Powers Geodesy
Discover Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) – lasers from ground stations measure satellite and Moon positions with millimeter precision. SLR supports the Terrestrial Reference Frame, tracks Earth rotation, tectonic motion, improves gravity and sea level models, and tests relativity. Explore the science behind these precision measurements in our Geodesy Cartoon.

South African National Geodesy Workshop
South Africa, with a rich geodetic history, faces fragmented efforts. A National Geodesy Workshop aims to unite stakeholders, enhance coordination, and align with the UN's GGRF agenda—establishing a National Geodesy Working Group to support national development and global collaboration in geodesy.

Call for IAG proposals – IUGG Support Program of Scientific Meetings in 2026
The IUGG invites proposals for support of selected scientific meetings in 2026, including workshops, schools, and symposia. Submissions via IAG must be sent by 10 September 2025 to IAG-Office. Meetings should be scientifically relevant, internationally oriented, inclusive, and multi-disciplinary.

IVTW2025 – 10th International VLBI Technology Workshop
This VLBI Workshop will be held October 21–25, 2025, at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. It gathers global experts to discuss VLBI advancements, including station systems, recording, correlation, imaging, and space VLBI. Participants can visit Onsala Space Observatory and receiver clean rooms. Abstract submission closes September 1.

Join us for GGOS Days 2025, held 1–5 September in Rimini, Italy, alongside the IAG2025 Scientific Assembly. Discover the latest GGOS achievements and challenges, connect with the community, and access contributions later in the GGOS Cloud.

COSPAR 2026 Scientific Assembly
The 46th COSPAR Scientific Assembly will be held in Florence, Italy, 1–9 August 2026, featuring ~150 meetings across space research, including geodesy. Abstracts are due by 13 February 2026. The IAG proudly sponsors COSPAR 2026. Details, registration, and submission: cospar2026.org.

Meeting Summary – Glacial Isostatic Adjustment Workshop 2025
The 2025 Glacial Isostatic Adjustment Workshop took place June 2–6 in Sidney, BC, Canada, with 136 participants from 23 countries. Topics included Earth rheology, ice sheet dynamics, and sea-level change. Highlights included strong early career researcher participation, a field trip, and new initiatives like a GIA model database and a planned open-source tutorial.

Geodesy Virtual School 2025 – Summary
The 2025 Geodesy Virtual School focused on reference frames and Earth system monitoring, held in five free online sessions coordinated from Argentina with support from SIRGAS, IAG, IUGG, and others. It featured 37 instructors and global participation, especially from the Americas. All lectures, in English or Spanish with subtitles, are available online, promoting inclusive, high-quality geodetic training worldwide.

Lost Without Geodesy
What happens if geodesy disappears? Phones, planes, and warning systems would fail. Our cartoon “Lost Without Geodesy” shows how vital this invisible science is. Geodesy powers GNSS, enabling precise positioning, earthquake monitoring, sea level studies, and more. Without it, GNSS would drift and global systems would collapse.

IAG Scientific Assembly 2025 – Third Circular
The IAG Scientific Assembly will take place in Rimini, Italy, on September 1–5, 2025. Abstract selection is complete, with 300 oral and 388 poster presentations scheduled. Early Career Scientists are encouraged to apply for IAG Travel Grants by July 31. Social events include an ECS Dinner and a Women in Geodesy Breakfast.
