DOI – Digital Object Identifier
DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a persistent, unique identifier used to reliably reference digital objects, such as research papers, datasets, or geodetic data products. For geodesy, assigning DOIs to datasets ensures long-term accessibility, proper citation, and traceability of observational or processed data. The GGOS Committee on DOIs for Geodetic Data Sets promotes the adoption of DOIs within the geodetic community, providing guidelines and standards to facilitate data sharing and integration across international geodetic infrastructures. By using DOIs, geodetic datasets can be consistently referenced in scientific publications, supporting transparency, reproducibility, and global collaboration.
