Geodesy Cartoons – Free Resources for Education and Outreach
IAG and the GGOS invite the global geodetic community to actively use and share the growing collection of Geodesy Cartoons. The cartoons were created to communicate geodetic concepts in a simple, engaging, and visually appealing way. They are designed to support science communication, outreach, education, and presentations, while also bringing a smile to the community.
Free to Use under CC-BY License
All cartoons are freely available under the Creative Commons CC-BY license. This means they can be used, shared, adapted, and redistributed, provided that the original cartoonist and source are credited appropriately. When using a cartoon, please include:
- the name of the cartoonist
- the source website: geodesy.science/cartoon/
Ideal for Education, Outreach, and Scientific Communication
The cartoons can be used in many different contexts, including:
- scientific presentations
- conference talks and posters
- university lectures and school education
- outreach activities and public engagement
- social media communication
- newsletters and websites
- educational curricula and teaching materials
- illustrations in reports or scientific work
Many cartoons explain complex geodetic topics in an accessible way and can help make scientific communication more engaging and understandable.
Easy Translation into Other Languages
The cartoons are also well suited for translation into other languages, as the main text is separate from the illustration. The simple structure and concise wording allow the community to localize the content and make geodesy accessible to wider audiences worldwide.
Higher Resolution Versions Available
If higher resolution versions are needed for printing, presentations, or educational purposes, please contact the GGOS Coordinating Office.
#CartoonOfTheWeek – Follow the New Initiative
To further promote geodesy outreach, IAG and GGOS have launched the new #CartoonOfTheWeek initiative. Every week, a new geodesy cartoon will be featured across the official social media channels. Please follow GGOS and IAG on your favorite social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, BlueSky, Telegram) to discover a new cartoon every week:
