ICESat – Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite

The ICESat (Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite) mission was a NASA satellite launched in 2003 that used laser altimetry to measure the elevation of Earth’s ice sheets, clouds, aerosols, land surfaces, and vegetation from 2003 to 2009. Its successor, ICESat-2, launched in 2018, continues to provide high-resolution 3D measurements of these same features to understand changes in a warming climate.
