IPCC – Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) is a United Nations body established to assess the scientific basis of climate change, its impacts and risks, and options for mitigation and adaptation. It synthesizes peer-reviewed scientific literature in comprehensive assessment reports that inform policymakers worldwide.
In geodesy, IPCC assessments rely on geodetic observations such as satellite altimetry (sea level rise), satellite gravimetry (ice mass loss and terrestrial water storage), GNSS (crustal deformation and glacial isostatic adjustment), and Earth rotation parameters. These measurements provide quantitative evidence of climate-driven changes in the Earth system and contribute to understanding long-term mass redistribution and global sea level trends.
