UTC – Coordinated Universal Time

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the standard civil time used worldwide, based on atomic clocks. Unlike UT1, which reflects the Earth’s actual rotation, UTC is extremely stable and uniform, but occasionally adjusted by leap seconds to stay within 0.9 seconds of UT1. This ensures that civil time remains closely synchronized with the Earth’s rotation while benefiting from the precision of atomic time. UTC serves as the basis for timekeeping in navigation, communication, and global scientific applications.
