PhD Student – Spatial AI, Navigation, Sensor Fusion
Website KTH Royal Institute of Technology
The Group of Navigation and Perception (GNP) at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is seeking a highly motivated doctoral student with a strong background and interest in spatial AI, navigation, sensor fusion, optimal estimation, and machine learning. Our research focuses on advancing next-generation spatial intelligence technologies for complex built environments and developing intelligent solutions to support a smart, sustainable, and resilient society.
Awareness of location and environmental context is crucial for applications such as location-based services (LBS), well-being promotion, and AI-driven decision-making. This is particularly relevant in scenarios where personal smart devices (e.g., smartphones) or autonomous perception systems operate in challenging built environments, such as indoor spaces, urban areas, and even underground settings. However, achieving accurate and reliable positioning in such environments remains a significant challenge.
This PhD project aims to develop novel AI-driven methods for trustworthy positioning and environmental perception, with a particular focus on mobile devices with limited computational resources and power supply. The research will explore sensor fusion techniques, deep learning models, and optimization strategies to enhance location awareness and situational understanding in complex and dynamic environments.
