Post-Doc Positions in SLR and Space Geodesy at Henan Polytechnic University, China

The Space Geodesy Group led by Professor Shuanggen Jin at the School of Geomatics and Aerospace Information, Henan Polytechnic University (HPU), Jiaozuo, China, invites applications for 2-3 full-time postdoctoral researcher positions. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. We welcome applications from outstanding early-career researchers worldwide.

I. Research Group

Professor Shuanggen Jin (Personal Profile: https://chxy.hpu.edu.cn/info/1039/6641.htm) is Vice President and Professor at HPU. He serves as Chief Scientist of a project funded under the National Key Research and Development Program of China and has been selected for inclusion in a national high-level talent program.

Professor Jin’s research focuses on intelligent navigation, space geodesy, environmental remote sensing, and planetary exploration. He has made pioneering contributions to the theory, methodology, and applications of GNSS remote sensing. He has published more than 400 SCI-indexed papers, authored or edited over 20 monographs and textbooks, and his works have accumulated over 20,000 total citations.

Professor Jin currently serves as President of the IUGG Union Commission on Planetary Sciences and holds editorial positions, including editor-in-chief and associate editor, with several international journals. He has led more than 30 research projects funded by the European Space Agency, China’s National Key R&D Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has received numerous honors, including a first prize in a provincial- or ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Award, and has supervised more than 150 postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, and master’s students.

II. Research Areas

– Theory, methodology, and data processing for Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) observations;
– SLR-based precise orbit determination, geodynamics, and space debris monitoring;
– Integration of SLR with GNSS, VLBI, and other space-geodetic techniques for the establishment and maintenance of terrestrial reference frames;
– High-precision time and frequency transfer and its integrated applications in space geodesy;
– Deep-space and planetary geodesy, remote sensing, and related applications.

III. Qualifications

1. Applicants should demonstrate strong professional ethics, academic integrity, rigorous scholarship, and good physical and mental health;
2. Applicants should have received their PhD within the past three years or expect to receive it before taking up the position. Applicants should normally be no older than 35 at the time of application, although the age limit may be relaxed for exceptionally qualified candidates;
3. Applicants should have an academic background in geodesy, satellite navigation, astronomy, space science, or a related discipline, and should have published at least two high-quality SCI-indexed papers. Research experience in SLR, GNSS, satellite precise orbit determination, or planetary science is preferred;
4. Applicants should be able to undertake full-time postdoctoral research at HPU and meet all other requirements of the University’s postdoctoral management regulations.

IV. Responsibilities

1. Conduct independent research aligned with the research group’s areas of focus and fulfil the required postdoctoral research objectives;
2. Publish high-quality research papers and actively apply for competitive research funding;
3. Contribute to the research group’s projects and participate in relevant academic activities and exchanges.

V. Salary and Benefits

1. HPU offers a compensation package combining an annual salary with research start-up funding. The annual salary ranges from RMB 200,000 to RMB 300,000, with an additional research startup funding of RMB 60,000 to RMB 100,000. The research group provides excellent research facilities and office space. Specific terms may be negotiated individually based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience;
2. In accordance with HPU’s postdoctoral policies, postdoctoral researchers are entitled to benefits including housing provident fund contributions, pension insurance, postdoctoral housing or a housing subsidy, support for children’s childcare and schooling, and medical coverage;
3. Postdoctoral researchers will receive support in applying for research grants and talent programs. Those with outstanding performance who meet HPU’s recruitment policies and postdoctoral completion requirements may apply for teaching and research positions at the University.

VI. Application Procedure

1. Applicants should combine all application materials into a single PDF file and submit it by email. The email subject should be formatted as: Postdoctoral Application – Full Name – PhD Institution;
2. The application package should include:
– Curriculum vitae;
– Proof of doctoral degree. Candidates who have not yet formally graduated should provide official documentation confirming that they meet the requirements for doctoral graduation;
– Representative research outputs and supporting documentation;
– A proposed postdoctoral research plan;
3. The research group will review applications promptly and arrange follow-up discussions and interviews.
