GLONASS – Global’naya Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema

GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is Russia’s satellite-based navigation system, providing global positioning and timing services similar to the U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS). Developed initially for military purposes, it became fully operational with 24 satellites in 1995 and is now widely used for civilian applications in smartphones, vehicles, and other navigation technologies. GLONASS operates independently but can also work with other global navigation satellite systems to enhance overall accuracy and reliability.
