IUGG – International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics

IUGG UGGI LogoThe International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) is an international scientific organization dedicated to advancing, promoting, and communicating knowledge of the Earth system and its space environment. It coordinates global scientific cooperation in the geosciences through several constituent associations that focus on different components of the Earth system. One of these associations is the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), which represents the geodetic community within the IUGG.

For geodesy, the IUGG provides an essential international framework for scientific collaboration, coordination of research programs, and the development of global standards and observing systems. Through the IAG and its services, the union supports fundamental geodetic infrastructure such as global reference frames, Earth rotation monitoring, and gravity field observations, which are crucial for Earth system science, satellite navigation, and the study of global environmental change.
