GNSS-R | Reflectometry

Reflectometry refers to techniques that use reflected signals (waves) from surfaces or interfaces to infer properties of those surfaces. In geodesy, a common form is GNSS Reflectometry (GNSS-R): GNSS signals (e.g. GPS) are reflected off Earth’s surface and received by ground, airborne, or spaceborne receivers. By analysing the reflected signals’ delay, power, Doppler shift or interference with direct signals, one can derive surface height (sea height, etc.), soil moisture, snow depth, vegetation state, and ice‐surface roughness.
