Stratosphere

The stratosphere is the second major layer of Earth’s atmosphere, extending from about 10 km to 50 km altitude above the surface. It is characterized by a temperature increase with height due to the absorption of ultraviolet radiation by the ozone layer. The stratosphere plays an important role in shielding life from harmful UV radiation and influences large-scale atmospheric circulation, weather patterns, and climate processes.
