IAG Structure Change: Splitting of Commission 4 & new IDEA Representative
The IAG Council (national representatives of the IUGG/IAG member states) has approved by electronic vote in August 2026 the following changes affecting the IAG Structure and the composition of the IAG Executive Committee:
- Establishing two new IAG Commissions 4 & 5 replacing the current Commission 4:
- Commission 4: Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT), and
- Commission 5: Atmosphere and Space Weather (including current GGOS Focus Area: Geodetic Space Weather Research)
- a representative for IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) as a new, voting member of the IAG Executive Committee.
Both changes will take effect in the next IAG term 2027-2031, which starts after the IUGG General Assembly in Korea in July 2027.
