IGRS – International Gravity Reference System

The IGRS is the system definition for a global gravity reference, establishing the conventions, models, and procedures for consistent gravity measurements worldwide. It provides the theoretical framework for defining gravity values and surfaces independent of local variations. In geodesy, the IGRS serves as the foundation for realizing International Gravity Reference Frames (IGRFs), which provide concrete coordinates and gravity values for applications such as geoid determination, monitoring mass redistribution, and integrating regional gravity networks.
