MEO – Medium Earth Orbit

A Medium Earth Orbit is a satellite orbit between Low Earth Orbit and Geostationary Orbit. Altitudes are roughly 2 000 km to ~35 786 km above Earth’s surface. Orbital periods lie between about 2 to 12 hours depending on altitude. MEO is used for navigation satellite constellations (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS), some communication systems, gravimetry/geodesy missions, and Earth-monitoring tasks.
