VGOS – VLBI Global Observing System
VGOS (VLBI Global Observing System) is the next-generation system for Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), designed to improve Earth orientation parameters, celestial reference frames, and geodetic measurements. It uses broadband radio signals, advanced antennas, and fast data recording to achieve higher precision, faster observations, and more efficient global coverage than the legacy VLBI systems. VGOS is a cornerstone of modern geodesy, supporting global monitoring of Earth’s rotation, tectonic plate motion, and precise positioning of terrestrial and space objects. Its development is coordinated by the International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry (IVS).
