CHAMP – CHAllenging Minisatellite Payload
CHAMP was a German satellite mission (2000–2010) designed for high-precision geodesy, gravity field, and magnetic field research. It carried instruments for GPS-based positioning, accelerometry, and a magnetometer to measure Earth’s gravity and magnetic fields. CHAMP provided data for modeling the Earth’s gravity field, monitoring mass redistribution, studying the ionosphere, and improving the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF). Its mission contributed to advances in satellite geodesy and Earth system science.
