IGN Spain – Instituto Geográfico Nacional

The Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) is Spain’s national mapping and geodetic authority, operating under the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. It is responsible for national cartography, geodetic and leveling networks, gravity infrastructure, and the maintenance of Spain’s official coordinate and height reference systems.

In geodesy, IGN Spain plays a central role in the realization and maintenance of the Spanish terrestrial reference frame (ETRS89-based), GNSS networks, gravity field observations, and Earth observation services. It contributes to European and global geodetic initiatives, supporting precise positioning, crustal deformation monitoring, seismic studies, and reference frame integration.
