News and Activities
GGOS IberAtlantic (GGOS IA) functions as a regional node of GGOS, focusing on geodetic activities across the Iberian Peninsula and the Atlantic region. GGOS IA fosters collaboration among geodetic institutions while promoting scientific research and technological development tailored to the region’s unique geophysical characteristics.

Introduction of the IAG Early Career Scientists group
ECS, IAG, 🏛️ Organisation NewsThe start of the new IAG term in 2023 brought several changes to the IAG structure. For the first time, all chairs of IAG entities (e.g., commissions, projects) were asked to nominate an early career scientist (ECS) to their steering committees. An ECS is a student, a PhD candidate, or a practising scientist who received their highest academic degree within the past 10 years (this period can be extended because of career interruptions). Once the ECS representatives for all IAG entities were identified, the IAG ECS group was established.
The primary goals of the ECS group are:
In its first year, the group successfully organized several ECS-focused events at IAG sponsored meetings, for example at the GGHS meeting in Thessaloniki and at the GGOS Days in Potsdam. There is much more planned for the years ahead. Visit our website (https://geodesy.science/ecs) to learn more about the group and its members. Meet Hugo Lecomte – Early Career Scientist
ECS, 📰 General NewsHugo Lecomte, a French researcher driven by a fascination with Earth’s gravity. His central question is: How well do we truly understand the changes in our planet’s gravity field?
During his postdoctoral work at LEGOS in Toulouse, he studied ocean mass and water variations using state-of-the-art satellite gravity measurements. Hugo has now begun a three-year postdoc at the Finnish Geospatial Institute, where he focuses on tracking gravity variations in Finland through high-precision ground-based observations. Bridging satellite data and in situ measurements, his research contributes to a deeper understanding of Earth’s changing gravity field.
