Geoid School Kazakhstan 2025

The 15th International School on “The Determination and Use of the Geoid” will be organized in Almaty, Kazakhstan between April 7-11, 2025

Information

Location:
Kazakhstan – Almaty
Event date:
2025-04-07 – 2025-04-11

Event’s site

From April 7th to 11th, 2025, the 15th International School on “The Determination and Use of the Geoid” will be held at the Institute of Ionosphere in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This event will be conducted in person, and all classes will be delivered in English.

The intensive week-long Geoid School is aimed at training students, early-career scientists, and professionals from national agencies, universities, and research institutes by providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary for computing and applying gravimetric geoids in various scientific and technical geodetic applications. Participants will gain valuable insights into the latest advancements in geoid determination and have the opportunity to establish international collaboration and interaction with experts in gravity field modeling.

Moreover, the School emphasizes the importance of interaction between the scientific community and cartographic agencies responsible for the development and modernization of national geodetic infrastructure. This collaboration ensures the effective translation of scientific research into practical applications for the improvement of regional and local geodetic networks.

The Geoid School is organized in partnership with the International Service for the Geoid under the International Association of Geodesy.

Join us to deepen your knowledge and contribute to the future of geodetic science!

The following topics are planned to be covered during the School:

  •  General theory of the gravity field
  • General theory of geoid computation
  • Global geopotential models and practical exercises
  • Terrain effect computations for surface and airborne data, applied for remove/restore geoid determination, with practical exercises
  • Residual geoid estimation: The collocation method in geodesy
  • Practical exercises: residual geoid estimation
  • Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) methods in geodesy
  • Height systems and vertical datum unification
