News and Activities
GGOS IberAtlantic (GGOS IA) functions as a regional node of GGOS, focusing on geodetic activities across the Iberian Peninsula and the Atlantic region. GGOS IA fosters collaboration among geodetic institutions while promoting scientific research and technological development tailored to the region’s unique geophysical characteristics.

GGOS a Masterpiece of Geodesy
GGOSGGOS is like an orchestra playing a masterpiece of music. The composer is the System Earth. The music sheets are the signals caused by changes of the System Earth. The musical instruments are the geodetic sensors detecting the signals of Earth System changes. The musicians are the Scientific Services of the International Association of Geodesy identifying, processing, and understanding the fingerprints of Earth System changes registered by the geodetic observations. The orchestra director is the GGOS organisational structure finding the precise combination and harmonisation of the individual instruments to reach a comprehensive, magnificent, and the best possible performance. The audience are all users of geodetic products to address societal challenges and key scientific issues in Earth sciences. Discover more …
Discovering Fingerprints of System Earth Changes with Geodesy
GGOSGeodesy not only provides the fundamental basis for all practical and scientific disciplines, whose activities are based on geo-referenced data, but it is able to deliver a global picture of the surface kinematics of our planet, including oceans, ice covers, and land areas, and to deliver estimates of mass anomalies, mass transport, and mass exchange in the System Earth. Surface kinematics and mass transport together are the key to global mass balance determination, and an important contribution to the understanding of the energy budget of our planet. Discover more …
Geodesy: The Cornerstone for a Comprehensive Observation of the System Earth
GGOSGeodesy provides the foundation on which all Earth observation systems are built. In this function, Geodesy is essential for Earth observation just like the foundation and frame of a house are necessary to keep it stable over time. Geodesy continuously measures and represents the shape, gravity field and rotation of the Earth, and provides all data and results free for public use. Discover more …
