News and Activities
GGOS IberAtlantic (GGOS IA) functions as a regional node of GGOS, focusing on geodetic activities across the Iberian Peninsula and the Atlantic region. GGOS IA fosters collaboration among geodetic institutions while promoting scientific research and technological development tailored to the region’s unique geophysical characteristics.

Frontiers of Geodetic Science (FroGS) Conference in Munich
Other, 📅 Event UpdateBe part of this year’s “Frontiers of Geodetic Science (FroGS)” – a small but nice conference which takes place every year as part of the German INTERGEO, one of the world’s leading platforms for geodesy, geoinformation, and land management. The event provides a forum for discussing current scientific developments and applications in geodesy.
This year, it will be held from September 15–17, 2026, in Munich.
We welcome contributions from all areas of geodetic research, especially from early-career scientists. Take this excellent opportunity to present recent findings and to connect with other experts from the field! As a convener I would like to draw your attention particularly to the session “Geodesy for climate research” – if you use geodetic techniques to study our changing planet, submit your abstract here.
There is no abstract fee. However, participants must register for the event via the INTERGEO website. The FroGS registration also grants access to the trade fair and participation in the INTERGEO Congress. The FroGS conference is organized by DVW Working Group “Geodetic Research”.

GGOS Highlights at EGU 2026
GGOS, Other, 📅 Event UpdateAt the EGU General Assembly 2026, the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) contributes to a diverse programme highlighting both scientific innovation and the growing societal relevance of geodesy. Several sessions and presentations showcase how geodetic research advances our understanding of the Earth system and supports informed decision-making.
Another highlight addresses the interface between science and policy. The session “Streamlining geodetic research for policy – how can we utilize the Essential Geodetic Variables (EGVs) for easier engagement and communication” explores how geodetic results can be better structured and communicated for broader societal impact. It discusses recent progress on Essential Geodetic Variables (EGVs), lessons from other scientific domains, and strategies to enhance the visibility and usability of geodetic data for policymakers and stakeholders.
Together, these contributions reflect GGOS’s commitment not only to advancing geodetic science and technology but also to strengthening its role in society—by improving communication, supporting policy, and reaching new audiences.

Save the Date: GGOS Days 2026 & Topical Meeting
GGOS, 📅 Event UpdateThe Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) of the International Association of Geodesy announces two consecutive meetings in early October 2026 in Gävle, Sweden. Both events will be held in a hybrid format (on-site and online) and aim to bring together the geodetic community for exchange, coordination, and forward-looking discussions.
GGOS Topical Meeting on Geohazards | 2 October 2026
This focused meeting will address the monitoring of geohazards using geodetic techniques, with particular emphasis on SAR/InSAR methods and regional monitoring networks. The goal is to connect ongoing initiatives, foster collaboration, and identify scientific and operational gaps that GGOS and IAG can help address. Participants are invited to contribute to discussions and help shape future directions in geodetic geohazard monitoring.

GGOS Days 2026 | 5–7 October 2026
GGOS Days 2026 will serve as a broader forum for the geodetic community. The meeting will feature updates on GGOS activities, discussions on current initiatives, and opportunities to engage with colleagues working across the Earth system sciences. The event is open to all interested in geodesy and its role in observing and understanding our planet.

Acknowledgements
Both meetings are kindly hosted by Lantmäteriet. Special thanks go to Martin Lidberg and Rebekka Steffen for their strong support in organizing these events.
These back-to-back meetings provide an excellent opportunity to engage with the international geodetic community and contribute to shaping future GGOS activities.
