News and Activities
GGOS IberAtlantic (GGOS IA) functions as a regional node of GGOS, focusing on geodetic activities across the Iberian Peninsula and the Atlantic region. GGOS IA fosters collaboration among geodetic institutions while promoting scientific research and technological development tailored to the region’s unique geophysical characteristics.

GGOS, 📰 General NewsTerrestrial Reference Frame
The International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) provides the fundamental basis to refer the geodetic observations and estimated parameters to a unified global basis. High accuracy, consistency and long-term stability are required for precisely monitoring global change phenomena as well as for precise positioning applications on and near the Earth’s surface.
The ITRF comprises concrete points (markers) attached to the solid Earth crust with precisely determined coordinates (mean 3D positions of the stations and their motions).

Discover GGOS – The Film
GGOS, 🌍 Geodesy NewsThe GGOS Coordinating Office has been working together with the GGOS and geodetic community on the production of the 8 minutes long film “Discover GGOS” to promote GGOS as well as geodetic observations, IAG services and geodetic products. The aim of this film is to explain and outline the benefits of geodesy in a simple way to students, non-geodesists but also to the whole society. In addition to the English film version, we have also produced the film in Spanish, German and Japanese to reach as many people as possible. Portuguese, French, Italian and Greek film versions are currently in production. To reach as many people as possible in their mother tongue, versions in Chinese, Russian and Arabic are also currently planned.
Please share this film with your colleagues, family members, and other interested people to bring them closer to the huge world of geodesy.

New Article on Geodesy and Quantum Mechanics
GGOS, Project QuGe, 🌍 Geodesy NewsCurrent developments in quantum physics and the application of general relativity will open up enhanced prospects for satellite geodesy, gravimetric Earth observation and reference systems. The new IAG Project – Novel Sensors and Quantum Technology for Geodesy (QuGe) was established to exploit the high potential of quantum technology and novel measurement concepts for various innovative applications in geodesy.
Recently in December 2021 an article was published (by Michel Van Camp, F. Pereira dos Santos, Michael Murböck, Gérard Petit and Jürgen Müller) in the EOS magazine to dive into this interesting scientific part. It is definitely worth reading …
