Geodetic Products

The Earth is a dynamic and continuously evolving planet. A wide range of internal and external processes alter its shape, the distribution of mass within and between its components (the geosphere, biosphere, cryosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere) and influence its rotation and orientation in space.

The fundamental task of geodesy is to determine the Earth’s shape, gravity field and rotation as functions of space and time. These geodetic properties respond, often in interconnected ways, to processes occurring throughout the Earth system. Consequently, geodesy plays a crucial role in detecting, analysing and modelling the signals generated by these processes, particularly those captured through geodetic observations.

Advances in satellite-based observation systems and modern technologies for geodetic data acquisition, transmission and analysis have transformed geodesy into a key discipline for monitoring the Earth system and quantifying global change. Today, geodetic data and products support a broad range of scientific, environmental and societal applications that extend far beyond the traditional tasks of surveying, measuring and mapping the Earth’s surface.

This resource presents a comprehensive catalogue of geodetic products organised according to the Essential Geodetic Variables (EGVs) framework, which provides a systematic basis for describing and monitoring the Earth’s changing geometry, gravity field and rotation.
