IAG Council
The IAG Council is the governing body of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), tasked with overseeing the strategic direction and policy decisions of the association. It is responsible for several key administrative functions, including:
- The election of the IAG President, Vice President, Secretary General, and other members of the IAG Executive Committee
- Approving changes to the IAG Statutes and By-laws
- Setting the framework for the organization’s activities
- Ensuring decisions are in line with the strategic objectives of the association
The Council also plays a pivotal role in endorsing new initiatives, projects, and collaborations, driving the ongoing development of geodesy through coordinated international efforts. The IAG Council is composed of „IAG National Correspondents to IUGG Member Countries“ appointed by the national IAG’s Adhering Bodies (see IUGG National Committees), the Council is integral to shaping the future of geodesy. By guiding the implementation of both scientific and administrative initiatives, it ensures that the IAG’s activities remain aligned with its mission while addressing emerging challenges in the global geodetic community. The Council meets regularly to make crucial decisions and chart the course for the advancement of geodesy worldwide.
