Standardisation Organisations

The International Association of Geodesy (IAG) strongly relies on its contributing organizations, which provide essential support in various ways. These organizations contribute expertise, personnel, and funding to sustain geodetic observatories, analysis centers, data centers, and many other critical components of geodetic research and operations. Their collaboration ensures the advancement of geodetic science and the development of high-quality global geodetic products.

The Sister Societies of the IAG are organizations active in the geospatial field, listed below. Most of these sister societies are also members of the UN-GGIM Geospatial Societies.

The IAG collaborates with Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) organizations by providing important products, such as precise geodetic reference frames essential for their systems. These geodetic foundation enable PNT services to deliver accurate positioning, reliable navigation, and synchronized timing worldwide. Some related PNT organisations are:

Stakeholders in Earth observation encompass a wide array of entities, each playing a crucial role in utilising and advancing the technologies and data associated with observing the Earth. The key external stakeholders for IAG in this field are:

The International Association of Geodesy (IAG) collaborates closely with space agencies worldwide to develop and maintain the global geodetic infrastructure essential for precise Earth observation, satellite navigation, and monitoring of global change.

  • NASA – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration
  • CNES – France National Centre for Space Studies
  • ASI – Italian Space Agency

IAG maintains liaisons to several scientific bodies and sends representatives to their steering committees.

Stakeholders in the development, implementation and use of standards play a crucial role in ensuring that standards are relevant, effective and widely accepted. These stakeholders come from different sectors and bring different perspectives and expertise to the table. Here are the key external stakeholders for IAG:
